San Blas Social Club

I stayed in San Blas, Mexico for a month about 5 years ago. It has nice people there and great beaches! I will definitely go again. I recommend it to everyone that i meet. You have to fly to Tepic, Mexico then take a bus down to San Blas. Very fun time!

While visiting Puerto Vallarta my wife and I took a few days from the commercialism of P.V and headed north to explore the famous surf and beaches of San Blas. What a great surprise to find the "social club". The owner/operator was the perfect host. Plenty of great stories and local history to go a lot with my perfectly spicy bloody mary. The bar and restaurant were full of locals and tourists alike with the sounds of jazz legends filling the air. Bring your opinions and stories because the art of conversation is not lost in this establishment. We enjoyed our stay immensely. Eric Crawford

My husband and I visited San Blas for a week in Janaury and were so glad to have found the San Blas Social Club! Agustin and his chef were amazing. Really cool restaurant with great music and staff. We literally ate here for all our meals! A must visit while in San Blas.

Well, how to start? I had a five star experience. San Blas is a special place where the winds and tides have combined to washed ashore a colorful group of ex-patriots. I felt fortunate to meet Augustin, who owns and operates the hotel, the bar, and cooks in his own restaurant when he wants. With an Anthony Bourdain meets Humphrey Bogart face, Augustin was most welcoming to his visitors, with a smile, a handshake, and a cold drink. After a few days on the road and sleeping in my van, I was so appreciative to feel such welcome and find out a little about this area. The rooms are secluded from the street and accessed from inside an open courtyard behind a couple of security doors - when the club is not open. While there is no locked area for your car onsite, Augustin offered some alternative suggestions and in the end, no one bothered my gringo car left out on the street anyway. My room, #2, had fresh tile and paint, was neat and clean, and had a brand new feeling foam topped bed that was well above what I had expected for a ridiculously low give-away price. How low a price? I'm not telling - perhaps it was a mistake - "that" low. I had shopped elsewhere (the Buccaneer) and saw a scary beat up room for twice the price.) Towels were fresh, clean and plentiful. There was nothing objectionable, and in all fairness there is not much to object to, the room was very spartan. With just a table and chair for adornment. Perhaps a bedside lamp could be added, but San Blas is too fascinating to do anything but just sleep or clean up while in the room anyway. In my 2600 mile drive through Mexico this was where I was treated best, where the best value for the buck was found, and while really a simple little place, that's why I think it earns 5 stars. …

We arrived at the end of January at San Blas and decided to go for a beer, first, before we checked a place to stay. In front of the plaza, still decorated for Christmas, we found the San Blas Social Club. Friendship & company welcomes us and invited us to spend day after day. A perfect starting point to meet people, explore the surroundings and enjoy life, the beach and the Huicholes. Delicious food, great sound and the best shower in Mexico :-))
