Beautiful Adventure
After booking my family for a trip to Acapolco, I discovered that it is one of the top five most dangerous cities in the world. Undeterred, my partner and I and her 11 year old son had a fantastic time, mostly staying on the resort. The beaches went on forever, and aside from the guards with machine guns on the beaches (and in military vehicles in town) there was no evidence of violence. There were few tourists, perhaps because of the scare, but the staff seemed grateful to have visitors; and the food, particuarly in the a la carte restaurant was truly sensational. We went on a side trip to see cliff divers and also went snorkling. Both were wondeful and well worth the money. If you scratch the surface a little, there appear to be expat Americans running ayahuasca retreats in the area, but we kept our adventures to those in the brochure, and we were fine!

Essential part of the tour
One cannot have a complete tour of Acapulco without visiting the old part of the city. It has character which is missing from the newer glitzier portion. You can imagine going back in time to a simpler time. Don’t miss it.

No surprises, worth a visit
Acapulco’s tourist hayday ended 30 years ago. Many places are in disrepair. That is part of its charm. Also, the US State department has told it’s citizens to not visit. I’m a US citizen and I like Acapulco because there are so few Americans. Going to a place that is filled with locals is a treat.

City on the Hills
Our driver and guide, Miguel Zequeida (better known as Miguel #4) at acapulcomikehome@live.com.mx gave us the grand tour of the old city and its beauty. He explained why the city was built on the hills, its history, and how people eventually moved on to the Gold area for the beaches and other areas for the golf courses. We felt like the city was still very lively and vibrant and represented a true Mexican city. We stopped at a local place for lunch over the water at a place Miguel #4 said we enjoy and he was right! Some of the best food ever1
