Interesting

Long waiting, but the Mummies museum was interesting and worth visiting. It is a small, but authentic Mexican, Guanajuato sightseeing.

Do not expect much

Many people have an expectation of what they want to see. They called these mummies not because they are actually mummies but the mummification process of the bodies. These are people that died and were conserved the way they did because the dry soil. These people died during epidemic in Mexico in the 1800’s. The bodies of these dead people came to surface and they were exposed to have family members claim them. As more bodies came out, more were exposed for other family members to claim but they were left behind.

People as they came in to walk through looking for their lost family quickly spreader the rumor and ended up as museum.

Smells like what it is, remember you are in Mexico and this is a small walk through place with not much resources for learning the history behind it. If you have a local friend is recommended to come along to help you translate or to learn about it.
