LAS CAZUELITAS, Ensenada

this place has one entrance in the lobby of the San Tomas Hotel and one entrance on the street. the ambiance is not overwhelming - calm, quiet, clean, altogether pleasant in an early-50s way.. the food is excellent. we had shrimp dinner, which was wonderful - it came with lots of onions (unless you like really volcanic meals, order the "ranchero" rather than the "diablo"). portions were good. home-made tortilla chips & home-made salsa! yum! the relleno was pretty high on the scale, and the chicken enchilada was great. the tacos were delicious too, which is always important for Taco Jones and his pal Captain Slanty. the dessert flan was made atop a bed of rich chocolate cake - my stars! thee guy 2ho doesn’t eat sweets cleaned up that plate! this joint has a full bar, with tv, a good beer list (but why drink american beer when there are so many great mexican beers?). pricing is good & the service is excellent+++. it’s location is very convenient, and it is run by the same folks who provide the hotel’s "continental breakfast" across the street. btw, below i note that the price range is "mid-range" but that’s in mexican terms - it is pretty cheap in terms of what you would get in the states. one note - english is spoken here, but having some spanish (as usual) helps!

we had breakfast here twice during our four night stay. the buffet was fantastic, starting with the homemade corn tortillas, eggs made to order, virria, fruit, jugo verde, the coffee, the chilaquiles, the french toast, pancakes, potatoes, beans, salsas.........i could go on and on....the service was the best too. many waiters on hand and very attentive. do not pass this place up!

It is a wonderful place to eat, they accept cards and cash, dollars or pesos, great service and excellent home made tortillas and other foods, I love breakfast there, but all dishes look spectacular and tasty, not too spicy, in fact most food isn’t you add the heat you want on it

Stopped in for a cold one on a hot day while in port from a cruise ship. Staff was very friendly and service was excellent. We didn't have a meal, but enjoyed the pico di gallo and some tortilla chips.

We found this place around the corner from Hussongs, and were surprised at the quality. The margaritas were excellent, and the food was as good as anywhere. Cream of poblano soup will knock your socks off. They take service seriously, and were great.
