La Cucaracha

We stopped here one night while we were checking out a few bars near the downtown, because a local friend of ours said she might stop by. Maybe they give better service to locals, I don’t know, but ours was terrible.

My husband ordered a single shot of the scorpion mezcal and the "cold meat" plate. I ordered a white russian and one of our friends ordered a beer. The waiter repeated back our order to us, so I’m sure he heard us right, but when he returned he had all six shots on the "mezcal tasting menu" none of which were the scorpion mezcal we had ordered. The waiter wouldn’t take them back, so I cancelled my white russian, which seemed to make him mad.

The cold meat plate was packaged ham and cut up hot dogs on a plate with pickled jalapenos and quesillo cheese. We nibbled on it, but it was pretty much as gross as it sounds. When we finally finished all the drinks we hadn’t ordered, and got the bill, the meat plate turned out to be 60 pesos instead of the 40 listed in the menu. We pointed this out to the waiter. "The menu says 40 but the bill says 60." Him: "Yes, it’s 60." Me: "But the menu says 40." Him: "Yes, but it’s 60." UGH! We paid the bill, skipped the tip, and won’t be going back.
