La Casa de Dona Ana

I had everything I needed during my stay -- comfortable bed, full kitchen, great hot water in the shower, plenty of swinging room, lots of storage space. All within a 15-20 min walk to the Historic Centro. I like being close but not too close to the action as it was much quieter to stay here than in the noisy Centro. Mike was superb at helping me navigate a safe check-in after 10pm. He was easily available by text for any & all of my questions. This is my go-to place whenever I come back to GTO!

We stayed in apartment #2 and it was exactly as it was described. Mike met us when we arrived and gave us a very clear and warm introduction to the unit and Guanajuato. The unit is a 20-30 minute walk to Centro in one direction and a 10 minute walk in the other direction to Soriana (a grocery store). The unit is also very close to the bus stop and there are frequent taxis available if you choose not to walk. It was also really nice to have a full kitchen and laundry facilities. Mike and Ana also were very kind to help set up a taxi to get us back to the airport at the conclusion of our visit. As an added bonus, be sure if you stay here that you visit the French restaurant La Table de Andrée which is a very short walk from the unit, as it has fantastic food and service.

As soon as we set foot into this apartment, we were taken in by its charm. Mike and Ana have worked hard at making the apartment feel like a traditional Mexican home without sacrificing any modern-day conveniences. The tile work and beautifully crafted furniture/cabinets are all work created by custom craftspeople. With their cultural artifacts filling in the decor on the room divider and walls, there is plenty of eye candy to delight the senses and awaken culture interest. Aside from a refrigerator, there is a full-sized stove/oven combo, a microwave, and a coffee maker. A tea kettle sits on the stove. There is enough cookware to prepare meals if one chose to, but there are hotel restaurants in the area if that is your choice. One should note that the apartment has filtered water, so there is no need to lug bottles back. Within the block of the apartment is a small convenience store that stocks the general necessities. On the terrace is a washer and dryer, plus a magnificent view of the city. It is a lovely place to sit and relax, especially if you have to do laundry. Conveniently situated, when venturing out, we had the option of taking a bus into the town center, a short ride for 25 cents or to walk. A bus stop is right around the corner, so it is perfectly located. We alternated between the two. Our only regret is that due to lost luggage when flying into León, we had to spend an extra night there, cutting out time short by one night at La Casa de Dona Ana – Guanajuato. We do feel cheated by this as we would have loved the extra time in the apartment and the town. On a last note, Mike is incredibly responsive and helpful for any needs. …

Mike could not have been more helpful and, as we were there for a long stay (one month in the upper apartment and a second month in the ground level apartment), we really appreciated all his help. Very responsive and friendly. We loved the location in the San Javier area of Guanajuato. No crazy-steep callejóns with stairs to deal with and located in a nice safe neighbourhood with friendly, quiet neighbours. And the rooftop patio was a nice bonus - not always easy to get a place with outdoor chilling space in Guanajuato. Shopping, amenities and el centro were all within comfortable walking distance. The apartment was very clean, well secured and comfortable: we had everything we needed - well appointed kitchen; laundry facilities; good high speed internet service; spacious bedroom, wardrobe, drawers, comfy bed; and there was a TV although we never used it as we prefer our computer for movies. Mike even provided a cell phone for use by renters (we had our own phone as we live in Mexico but it was good to know the spare was there if we needed it). Mike and Ana provide renters with a binder full of tons of useful information - emergency medical phone/addresses, taxis, town amenities, and clear instructions for everything in the apartment (internet, TV etc). And we absolutely loved the eclectic and authentic Mexican decor. We loved our stay and highly recommend staying at Mike and Ana's placce and we would most definately stay there again. …
