Fun, chill restaurant

After walking around Tulum on a hot day, we were fortunate enough to find Charlie’s, a cool respite with perfect refreshment. We sat on the lovely covered patio and enjoyed delicious drinks and food. The hibiscus mojito was the best drink I had in Mexico. Also, it was an honest drink, something we found difficult to find in Mexico. Unhurried, attentive service capped off a lovely lunch. Don’t miss the fish tacos.

Great food (literally every item on the menu) & the BEST mojitos in Tulum

Incredible, this place deserves more business. The drinks were AMAZING - you must try the Mojito Maracuya (passionfruit) and the original mojito, best in Tulum. The food was INCREDIBLE - the chicken mole, al pastor tacos, the chicken flautas, etc. literally everything. But the real gem here. Charlie himself. What a character, definitely introduce yourself and get to know this man a little bit. He also has a beautiful, and surprising, art gallery in the back of his restaurant. Only complaint, but not so bad since the restaurant was mostly outdoor, I did not see any servers wearing masks. Either way, highly recommend.

Delish

We enjoyed our dinner in the garden area last night. Chili rellano and shrimp. Margaritas were perfect. Highly recommend!

Great Tacos

Charlies is unassuming from the street, but when you walk to the back the setting is very nice. I had the vegetarian tacos and my husband had chicken enchilada mole. Great flavor and the tacos are full and flavorful. We will definately be returning again.

Bordering on fine dining.

Read that I had to try Sopa de Lima (Lime Soup) while in Yucatan. This place came up when I googled it. Staff were friendly and spoke English well. The Sopa de Lima was superb. It had a bit of tang from the lime, and the corn chips in it gave it some crunch. I was feeling pretty hungry, so I also ordered the octopus tacos and the shrimp tacos. The octopus tacos were pretty good, but the shrimp tacos were the hero. They had a tequila and herb sauce and they went down a treat. I washed this down with a mango mojito, which was also quite good. It was fairly pricey compared to the other food in Tulum, but worth the extra money.

Great Food and Atmosphere

I’m always hesitant about places that are located right in the middle of a tourist strip, but we’d been avoiding eating on the strip our whole stay. We looked up some places and we decided to pop into this place. I’m very glad we popped in. First of all, this place has a beautiful patio deeper inside the restaurant that you can’t see from the street. We sat back there and had excellent service. We ordered some small plates to split and a couple drinks. The ceviche was delicious and we overall loved the atmosphere. If you’re going out mainly for good food and great service, this is the type of place you’re going to want. The overall set up seemed more geared and priced towards tourists, which I understand. It was a little bit more on the pricier side, but again it is geared towards tourism and is located in the heart of the tourist area. I tend to avoid these areas for food, but I’m glad I stopped in at least to try it. I did not leave disappointed at all.

A lot of options for vegetarians

We happened upon Charlie’s when our original dinner plans fell through. We liked that the prices looked very fair and that in every category there was a vegetarian option because everyone in our party was a pescatarian (this makes going into those corner tacquerias, where everything is pork, impossible). We got to sit in the back in an outside table and service was good, food was good quantity and tasted very good. I really liked the vegetarian tacos in particular and others really liked the fish tacos. The place was largely empty so couldn’t tell you if this is "too American" which is something we largely avoid but we enjoyed ourselves and would go back.
