Tour and liquor tasting
We enjoyed the tour. Gregorio is a very knowledgeable host about the history of the place as well as the making of the liquors. Not a tour for children, but it’s a great way to spend a few hours in Merida.

Carnival Cruise Excursion
Casa D’Aristi produces rum in the old Mayan traditions. If it is the right time of the season you will probably see the factory in full swing. When we went, there was only a handful of employees "cleaning bottles" to fill. This is more of a rum tasting trip with an opportunity to purchase some rum after the tasting. The rum has honey added from a stringerless bee so it very sweet. Not to my liking but still good. There are stairs that need to be negotiated so not exactly wheelchair or mobility friendly but I’m sure the folks at the distillery could help you out. Even though the rum was too sweet for my tastes we did buy 6 bottles to give away as gifts. We did see the rum in the duty free shop but for considerable more money then at the distillery. If you like rum and you want to purchase some sweeter tasting rum then take this tour. Our original tour got cancelled because it didn’t meet the minimum requirement for passengers so this was a backup plan. The tour guide we had was very entertaining and seemed to like his job a lot. As in all tours if the tour guide sucks then your outing will suck and we thoroughly enjoyed our tour guide.
