Winter Escape to Puerto Vallarta
First, the disclaimer. We stayed at this hotel thanks to the recommendation of a dear friend who has stayed dozens of times, and who arranged a great discount weekly rate. We paid US$26. a night for a room with two beds. The property is spartan but cleaned and well maintained. The staff is friendly and desk clerks speak English. The neighborhood is quaint, but definitely changing and there is lots of modern development in the area. The Malecon and beach is about five very short blocks away. The Cuale river island is about a block away. This is a budget option, and should not be compared to the luxury accommodations in the Hoteles area. In this neighborhood you will find lots of Canadians, Mexicans, Americans - all kinds of people, residents, visitors. Lots of your fellow hotel guests are regulars who have been coming since the 1960s and 70s. The beds are quite comfortable with very firm mattress. I highly recommend it to students, artists, and travellers (not so much tourists) who appreciate the human touch, community color and great variety of local food options. What a community of diversity and variety - and joie de vivre! …

Just what we were looking for
This is NOT a luxury hotel. What this is is an economical room with everything we needed. We stayed in every manner of hotel room, from Mazatlan to Barra de Navidad, and this room had the best shower and the best toilet seat!! The bed was even comfortable! The guys at the front desk are knowledgeable and speak great English. They made us laugh every time we passed by. We will definitely stay here again!
